Headspan Privacy Policy

Effective date: October 31, 2026

This policy describes how the current version of Headspan ("the app") handles your information. It is written to be accurate to what the app actually does, not boilerplate - if the app's data handling changes, this document must change with it.

Headspan is developed by Offline Studios, a non-profit that builds free, privacy-focused apps.

The short version

The current version requires no account and keeps the data described below on your iPhone. Headspan has no advertising.

What data the app stores, and where

Headspan keeps the following in files on your iPhone:

  • Your 5-hour and weekly limits and how much of each is left
  • Your focus sessions and focus streak
  • Which daily habits you kept, your capacity, and your Monday reviews
  • Time spent per day in the app tiers you set up, and your tier choices
  • App preferences, such as your focus look

These files are shared only with Headspan's own widget and system extensions on the same iPhone. The current version has no sync of its own. If you back up your iPhone, your backup may include this data, under the terms of your backup provider.

Screen Time

Screen Time access is optional. If you allow it, Headspan uses Apple's Screen Time frameworks to measure time spent in the apps you sort into tiers, which is what spends your limits and fills in the break-down of what drained them. This data is measured on your iPhone, is not sent to Offline Studios, and is never used for advertising. Headspan never blocks or restricts another app.

Health

Health access is optional. If you allow it, Headspan reads your sleep and exercise time to work out whether you kept its sleep and movement habits. It only reads: it never adds, edits or deletes anything in Health. This data stays on your iPhone.

Notifications

When a limit runs low, Headspan shows a heads-up in the Dynamic Island or as a notification. These are created on your iPhone.

Third parties

Headspan does not use any advertising or tracking SDKs. The current version has no backend and no analytics, and does not send the data described in this policy to Offline Studios or to any third party.

Apple provides the App Store and the frameworks above under its own privacy policy. If you choose to share diagnostics with app developers in your iPhone's settings, Apple may give us anonymous crash reports. Headspan plays no part in sending them.

Your control over your data

  • You can permanently delete your limits, habits and history at any time with Delete all data in the app's settings.
  • You can turn off Screen Time or Health access at any time in your iPhone's settings.
  • Uninstalling the app deletes all locally stored data.

Children's privacy

Headspan is not directed at children and is not intended for use by anyone under the age of 13 (or the relevant minimum age in your jurisdiction).

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this same location with a new effective date.
